My son wants to take his first economics course when he starts college in the fall. Should he start with macro or micro? Does it matter? Is one easier? More math?

Look at what his college recommends. At my school they say to take micro first. At my friend's they say to take macro.

First the forrest, then the trees...then make sure he doesn't miss the forrest for the trees.

Micro tends to have more math than macro at the elementary level. Take from this what you will.

it will likely depend on the school.
my school requires micro first.
I thought macro was more interesting though.

Micro will give better understanding for macro.. Generally I think micro is done before macro.

yeah i took ap micro and i would say get to know the inner workings of econ first. then take macro

Thanks for all the replies. He picked micro.

good choice, i know people who did it the other way and had trouble with it because they were missing some of the micro fundamentals.

A good micro and macro class can be some of the best classes you ever take to understand how the economy works from the ground up. I loved them both.

I took Macro first, got an A. I took micro and didn't do too well, but that was only because I was pledging for a fraternity.

Both......

i think micro first?

id say its easier to learn the big picture- Macro- before u learn the details-micro.

i think macro is a lot easier, but at my school they combined it into one intro course.

There's a lot of overlap between the two...at least early on anyhow.

I tend to think Micro is better at first, but usually schools have some sort of track in place that dictates which to take and when.
