Macs or Dell

Dell or Sony Vaio?

UVMLauren, dell overprices everything, because 90% of people just go to google and find that 30% off coupon, which puts dell way lower than that macbook

what's this rumor about dells causing the most problems for students while students are on campus. I heard this about the University of Chicago -NSIT, the computer service people- say that dells tend to breakdown more throught their services more often on campus. That's the last thing that I want to happen! They recommend Mac's.

If I'm wrong, correct me pleaze.

just my two cents

Re: Macbook pricing

The Dell Inspiron E1405 comes standard with a 80 G hard drive and a DVD/CD burner and a slightly larger screen than the Macbook. Its Core Duo processor runs at 1.6 GHz, but can be upgraded to match the Macbook for $64.

The basic Macbook comes with a slightly faster Core Duo processor (1.83 GHz), a 60 G hard drive and the Apple Combo-drive (a DVD/CD-RW unit which will only burn CDs). You can upgrade the Macbook to match the Dell with the 80 G hard drive upgrade, but Super-drive option (burns DVDs and CDs) is not available on the base model. If you want the DVD burner, you have to buy the 2 GHz Macbook.

By the time you create equivalent systems, the Dell is still cheaper than the Macbook before discounts.

As for reliability issues, there's simply more Dells than Apples on most campuses. Even if repair rates were equal between the two brands, the larger your base, the greater will be the absolute number of repairs.

Reliability is important, but it's only one factor. If you're accident-prone, a dropped laptop onto a concrete sidewalk (Apple or Dell) is a bad thing...

I had my Dell for 2-3 years and it had no problem for the last two years... my bro also has a dell and it hadn't had any problems. Don't worry, Dell's a big company you can buy warranties.

Dell used to make much better computers- Lenovo, Sony, HP all make better quality systems in the same price range. We have brand new dell latitudes at work and they suck majorly.

I've personally got a system from HP's small business site that's excellent so far...I'll upgrade sometime in the spring, probably to a Sony FJ or SZ series, unless I get a renewed compulsion to go mac.
