Macs or PCs?

Any preferences?

I've been using PCs my whole life but I kindofsortof want to get a Macbook for college. Windows is just starting to get on my nerves.. but I'm afraid it'll be hard to make the change/get used to a whole new system. Is it worth it to switch?

Mac! It wasn't too hard to get used to... but I didn't use computers too much (7 hours/week) until last year when I got a Mac. Now I use the computer 50 hours a week...

Macs! Get a MacBook, it'll be the best decision you ever make.

I'm stuck on an old iBook G4 from 2005 right now. I'm hoping it will last until October 2010 when the new MacBooks will come out so I can get one for college.

I've used PCs my whole life but the laptop I got at the beginning of this school year is a Mac, and I'm pretty used to using it now. Took awhile to get used to the new keyboard and Command button instead of CTRL and I had to switch the mouse settings for me to be able to click by tapping the mouse pad....
I think I still know PCs better b/c I know the shortcuts but now I sometimes press the ALT key instead of CTRL because that's the command's position...

PCs, lol. Not even an intelligible question.

If you're annoyed with the OS, try linux. Takes no time at all to make the switch if you know how to partition a hd and have a decent internet connection, and you can switch back if you don't like it, or keep trying with different versions until you find something you do like. And it's infinitely customizable, far safer, less of a resource hog, etc. etc. etc.

Oh, and it's free. You won't have to waste 1k+ on an uncustomizable overpriced piece of trash! ;D

Moodrets, I'm guessing you've never used a Mac :D

Nah, had a powerbook g4 for a little while a few years back. It was decent enough for the price I payed for it ($250), for it was in all intents and purposes in new condition, but the lack of support for third party apps and the horrible specs completely put me off. And I'd never pay anywhere near retail for one, anyway...

"Oh, and it's free. You won't have to waste 1k+ on an uncustomizable overpriced piece of trash! ;D"

Just wanted to point out that you're saying that Linux is free, and Macs cost money, so we should for Linux.

Excellent point.

I'll certainly be enjoying my copy of Linux sitting here with no computer to install it on ;)

EDIT - "lack of support for third party apps and the horrible specs completely put me off." ... Er, about 140 of the 150 apps in my folder are third party apps... What?

I don't mean to be abrasive or anything, the free thing was just a teasing prod, I know what you meant. But... That still seems like you're spreading misinformation there.

Err, LOl, he has a computer, or is "Windows is just starting to get on my nerves.." secretly phrased in the past tense?

And haha, simply because there are faaaar more apps available for windows than for leopard, does not mean that there are no apps available for macs at all, just that the selection is far better for windows. And if you want to do any gaming whatsoever, you... can't, with a mac, really...

PC >>> Macs

If you're a casual computer user(email, surfing the net, listening to music, writing papers) then Macs are user friendly, though overpriced. for those who want to get more technical, a PC is needed.

I see the appeal of Macs. But at the end of the day, you're paying 1000 for 200 worth of computer parts. for a businessman like myself, it just doesn't sit well.

oh, and considering that it's possible to install leopard on a PC, with a little know how, there is no reason to pay the apple markup

Fair enough, the selection of native apps will be better. But then again, I have Parallels and Crossover running, meaning that Windows apps run fine my Mac. So while people with Windows to choose from Windows Apps, Mac owners get to choose from Windows or Mac native applications. And while Parallels has 3D support, and if you're willing you can find ciderized versions of most any game (I have Red Alert 3 and Portal running right now, without any another program helping), if you're a serious gamer, you can't just boot into Windows whenever. Which I do. Why? Because I love the way Mac OS X works, and I'd rather spent the couple minutes rebooting when I want to be immersed in a game that doesn't have a Mac equivalent then switch to Windows. The benefits outweigh that con for me. For you, may be different. But I still disagree with your point.

I hate OSX, though it is better than previous generations.

I prefer PCs.

Thanks for the input so far, guys!

I'm pretty sure I'm just a casual computer user (like most hs seniors), but what do you mean by technical?

And just btw, Moodrets, I'm a girl :D

I would suggest that you get a computer that suits your needs. If you want to use your computer more for technical tasks or business/finance applications, you should probably get a PC. If you want to use your computer for more artistic applications, a Mac would be better.

PC..........

this article was nice to read. "Both have a place in the market, and they’ll make money as long as they stick to their rightful domain."

this was on digg before: http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/3012/macpcom5.jpg

i have had a pc my whole life and then other brands of laptops then for christmas i got a mac and its the best thing ever i would go for the mac and my friend has had one forever and it never really gets virus

mac 4lyf. there are many computers at my house, many are PCs, many are macs. i work with a mac laptop and desk top, but thats mainly because of a) looks and b) all that i use the comp for is photo/visual things, music, internet, and word. if i had to choose between bill gates and steve jobs, i would probably choose bill, cos he seems like such a nice geeky guy
