I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion if I went to a Suny or CUNY I would be in loads of debt. So I thought to my self I might as well go out of state because I hate New York and I might as well go into debt and have a experience and have fun. I mean most of american students go into debt. So I compiled a list of school I actually want to go as a undeclared major.
84 weighted 83 unweighted 1100 sat. Heavy upward first year was a 78 second years 82 third year is going to be around a 92. Ap stats government and Italian under my belt. Honors earth science biology algebra Italian geometry and I take classes at my local CUNY such as student development statistics biology and psych. Extracurriculars: diagnosed with autism freshman year derailed my life and my academics. Varsity tennis soccer and track. 100 hours of community service doing projects such as cooking at a soup kitchen assisting the homeless in my area.
Schools
Safeties: Weber state, Casper college, western Arizona college
All open enrollment.
Targets: university of Montana, University of Wyoming University of Kentucky, University of Alabama, university of New Mexico, university of Arizona West Virginia university.
Reaches: LSU uc Santa Cruz.
Can someone give statistical estimates on these colleges please. Thank you.
Ik most of you are going to flip out and say most of these schools have a average gpa of a 3.7. But when you go their cds most of them say that there accepted student body between the ranges 2.5- 2.9 make up almost 1/5 of the class so that’s a pretty significant amount of acceptances. And Ik is Santa Cruz is a heavy heavy reach I don’t need to be preached to.
Can anyone give me chances/recommendations. It would really be helpful. I’m interested in state flagships.
UC Santa Cruz Freshman profile for 2019 is below. Also UC Santa Cruz offers little to no financial aid to OOS students, so expect to pay $65K/year to attend. How do you plan to pay that amount since you as a student cannot take out more than a total $27 for 4 years in federal loans? Whom is picking up the rest?
Also the UC’s use 10-11th grades only in their GPA calculation with only AP/IB classes getting the extra honors points weighting since your are an OOS applicant. As an OOS applicant you need a minimum **3.4 UC Capped weighted GPA ** to apply to any of the UC’s.
Here is the UC GPA calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
UC Capped Weighted GPA: 3.76 - 4.16
ACT Composite Score: 24 - 30
ACT English Language Arts : 25 - 32
SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing: 590 - 690
SAT Mathematics: 610 - 760
SAT Essay: 14 - 17
@Gumbymom does the cal state system only use gpa from 10th and 11th because maybe I should substitute ucsc for San Fran or San Jose state. Do you think I have a shot at those schools?
@Gumbymom i would take out private loans.
@siny37:
You cannot take out private loans in that amount. Your parents would have to co-sign for you or take out the Parent plus loans. Are they willing to do that?
All the Cal States except Cal Poly SLO use 10-11th grades only for the Cal State capped weighted GPA calculation.
The capped weighted CSU GPA = UC capped weighted GPA from the Rogerhub calculator.
SFSU is a non-impacted campus so a minimum 2.47 GPA to apply as an OOS applicant as of now. SJSU is an impacted campus so it will depend upon what major you are applying that will determine the minimum GPA required.
Since the Cal states are going test optional this year, they are going to put a higher emphasis on GPA so the minimum’s may change.
You would have a better chance at SFSU vs. SJSU.
@Gumbymom is SFSU a good school? I have a 3.4 capped weighted gpa according to that calculator. I’m interested in applying undecided or maybe business. Is SFSU cheaper than UCSC and what about San Jose state?
@Gumbymom what are parent plus loans?y parents will be paying my loans for the first 6 years they said and then after that I’m paying them.
Yes, SFSU is a good school along with San Jose state. They are less expensive than the UC’s but also do not offer any financial aid to OOS students. However, both schools reside very expensive areas in which to live. Cal states only guarantee Freshman year housing so you will be probably living off-campus years 2-4.
Check out the costs of apartments in the area to get an idea of your living expenses.
Both schools Cost of attendance: Tuition/fees/housing plus Non-resident fees come out to around $39-40K/year.
Both will have good business programs and SFSU will be an easier admit over SJSU.
