My daughter is considering Madeira as a boarder, and I am wondering what other people’s experiences have been? In particular the modular system–is it a good or bad thing? Are the girls nice? Are the classes challenging? Is the Co-curricular program really as amazing as it sounds? Thanks!
I’m considering Madeira with dinner…
Hey there!
I just found this thread, so I dont know if you applied to madeira or not, but I wanted to tell you that as a Madeira student I think the school is great! I’m a boarder, and I really like the boarding. It is up to chance whether you live in an un-renovated or renovated dorm, but as someone who ended up in a dorm that was last renovated in 1960, its still okay and I really enjoy living here! The modular system is very nice, although some modules will definitely vary in challenge. For example, last module I had all maths and sciences, while I’ve heard of people have two art electives and a free block in one mod. I think it’s nice, but it definitely has its pros and cons. I’d say most of the girls are nice, but there’s a diverse group of girls and there will definitely be some girls you will want to be friends with and some girls you don’t. Co-curricular is great, although I’m currently a freshman and have not experienced it too much. Message me if you have any questions!
Hi! I don’t actually atttend Madeira, but one of my close friends does and I’ve been there a few times. From what I’ve noticed everyone is pretty nice- I’ve met a few of my friend’s friends there and they all seemed pretty chill. I’ve heard a variety of stuff about their modular system, but it sounds pretty confusing to me haha. Most of the dorms are all close together by the Oval near the main library. It’s a huge campus but most of it is at the enterance for the horses and playing fields and etc.- the main part is actually fairly small. My friend who is a day student is good friends with a boarder and she says that the food is great and so are the dorms and living conditions. Campus is also beautiful by the way- it feels more old fashioned than some over schools and it overlooks the potomac.
