Despite it's small city in the midwest location, Madison has a nice collection of foods outside the normal Thai, Chinese, Indian staples of college towns.

That's only a tiny sampling of ethnic restaurants, many more. Hint to anyone in Madison this time of year- try to get hold of the Annual Isthmus manual around campus- free for lists of tons of places.

If I remember right, in some of the "school reviews" on this site for UW Madison a few of them talked quite a bit about the vaariety of eateries close to the school. You might want to check there too.

Tonight we went to a new restaurant called Cloud 9 off of Stoughton Rd in a newly developing section of the east side of Madison. Food was good, but standard. What was great was the view. It's up on a rise and from the top floor you can see both lakes and the capitol and its pretty spectacular at sunset.
