Hi! I'm a freshman planning to change my major to bioengineering or pre-bioengineering (currently a general biology major). I was wondering how difficult/what the time commitment MAE 9 (C/C++) is for people who have never taken a programming class before.

I have a fairly sophisticated knowledge of computers in general and am proficient with HTML and some rudimentary Actionscript (similar to Javascript) which I learn in my spare time.

Should I take CSE 5A (Intro to Programming I) before I take MAE 9? Will that screw up my four year plan that badly (I looked at some sample plans for bioengineering majors and they all look pretty packed; I'm in ERC).

i dont know if you can get that switch, youd have to follow the be track until youre a jr and hope to get in..but, mae 9 is just time consuming, i wouldnt waste the time taking an intro class before it

im in the same situation

little html experience but other than that, have not worked with code at all before.. wasn't expecting such a class for a bioe biot major. (do not want EE! )

yeah, i was in the same position as you guys. my reaction was pretty easy, though.

lecture 1 - walk out, thinking ***?
lecture 2 - walk out, drop class and contemplate taking it next quarter
lecture 3 - walk out after auditing and decide to drop my BE:PM major.

easy as pie :D

I didn't know squat about programming before I took it, somehow managed to get a good grade in the class...it REALLY helps if you have friends that know programming. But considering you already have a general background, you should be okay.
