okie dokie. bus10 is an introductory business course and cs8 is an introductory computer science course that you have to take before you take stat48. both are mandatory for pre-business majors. everyone has a different experience, but i personally didnt have a problem with those classes. bus10 has open book open note midterms and you get a two page cheatsheet on the final so it’s really easy imo. and cs8 goes over stuff that you should mostly already know, just from the fact that you’re a teenager/young adult. my fraternity helped me a lot with time management. but that’s my frat. most people who pledge a frat don’t feel the same haha. cause it does take a lot of time, but my frat helped me with time management. and GO TO OFFICE HOURS. one of the best things about ucr is if you need help, it’s easily available. there’s the learning center. and all the TAs and professors I have ever come into contact with are happy to meet with me, and even are willing to schedule appointments around my schedule. even professors and TAs who im not taking classes from are happy to help. if you’re struggling, get help.

For now, just go off this sheet: http://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/pre-business_program/PRBSWorksheet11F.pdf and take the classes that are explicitly listed. after your first or second quarter, you’ll hear more about other classes from your friends and you’ll get a feel of what interests you. (for the more vague requirements, like the second one under social sciences) The classes I mentioned are really the only ones i would highly recommend for your first quarter, since I personally think you should take it easier your first quarter.

i like the classes. it’s been easy for me so far. in fact, i wish ucr had more placement exams so i couldve skipped some of these classes. for a lot of the classes, i feel like i already know all the stuff haha. but a lot of the times, the first week of classes is easy, so you feel like you dont need to go to class cause its so easy, then the class speeds up and you fall behind haha. but im still maintaining over a 3.7 gpa. definitely utilize ratemyprofessors.com. even though you dont really have a choice of professors, at least you’ll be prepared. class sizes will be very large for your first year definitely, especially if you’re not in honors. most of your classes will be 200-400 people large, but you’ll have smaller discussions (like 20-30 people) tests/finals are different for every class. some, like bus10, are really easy. and others are harder. like i felt like i was dying during all my math22 tests, and i got a D on my stat48 final…but i still got A minuses in both those classes so whatever haha.

Oh wow thanks! That was some really helpful info and def useful. Def appreciate that!

So when I go to orientation should I take a copy of that paper with me ? Or will there be someone who helps me get the classes that I need and guides me threw it?

My orientation is on July 18th-19th. It’s the 4th session so its pretty early. My concern is will I be able to get the classes at the time that I want? I really want to avoid getting early morning classes :/. I would prefer around 9 or 10ish. Would I have trouble with getting my earliest class at around that time? How quickly do classes usually fill up?

Also, what sort of scedule do u suggest I stick with for the Fall Quarter? Any suggestion would be helpful.

no problem. i believe they will have copies of that sheet for you, but you might want to print it out and bring it anyways just in case they run out or something. =]

You can go to classes.ucr.edu to search for the classes that you want. just fill in the subject area and course number (ex: for math 4 you’d put mathematics and 004) and itll show you all the available sections and how filled each one is.

For your last question, do you mean what sort of schedule in terms of what time should you try to schedule your classes? you might not have a choice. for larger classes, there is only one section offered. personally, i try to always have a class in the morning everyday (9 or 10ish, like you) just because im afraid ill get lazy and unproductive if i schedule all my classes at 2pm. =P Also, my fall quarter i did not schedule any classes ten minutes apart because i was afraid i wouldnt be able to make it from one class to another on time, but ten minutes turned out to be fine, and actually preferable imo. fall quarter i made sure i had at least an hour gap between all my classes…but then i realized that i had an entire hour with nothing to do. cause you cant exactly study effectively with just one hour lol.

Okay sounds good! I always like being prepared haha.

Yeah I took a look at that, and are the seats that are available right now, the only ones that will be available during orientation. I noticed that some at 100+ available others had around 20-50 available. What does this mean?

Yeah I want to start somewhat fresh but not too early u noe? I want to end my day by 3 at the latest. I hope thats possible, like u said i really want to avoid getting lazy haha. Earlier u mentioned Buis10 and CS8 being very easy classes. I was just wondering if these classes are easy regardless of wat teacher u get, meaning do they all have the same final/teaching material? Or does it all depend on what teacher u get?

Also, do u recommend any clubs or anything of that sort that would help pre-buisness majors? Any suggestions?

yes those are the only ones available. there shouldn’t be 100+ sections…each time it’s listed is one section. like one period in high school. the number of seats listed is there and the number of seats left is there. i think im missing the point of your questions though… =/

it is possible, but you might have one late class here and there. the same professor will be teaching bus10 and the same lecturer will be teaching cs8 as the quarters i took it. my ta’s for both weren’t very good but i still got good grades.

im not in any business specific clubs, but i am in a community service fraternity (beta phi delta) which i feel helped me a ton with my academics, because it taught me how to even more effectively manage my time. i was already pretty good with it, but it helped me even more in so many ways.

Which Econ classes can I take for my first quarter? Am I able to take Econ? Is that a breadth class? I’m a engineering major, thanks so much!!
