Hello all, question, I took my MAE and failed as expected due to having no math my senior year. On myucr under the placement exams section it says that they put me in intermediate algebra at the community college. I am a pre business major and I thought that only the engineer majors (I think) had to take the cc math class if they did not do well on the MAE. I thought I heard or read that somewhere, and that if the pre business people didn't do well they were just placed in the lowest ucr math class. Is there something wrong?

Thanks

Just remembered another question, I read the threads about orientation but didn’t get the info I wanted. The question is what exactly do you do in the playfair and do you have to participate? Also would like to know more about the common ground thing and having to spill your guts to people? Again, is it necessary?

MAE is for Bourns/CNAS students, if your pre-buss. i’m not sure why you took it.

I didn’t go the playfair, cause i had to take my mae, but i heard that even though it’s weird, you would look weirded not doing participating then just doing it.

Common ground is pretty unique, you don’t have to spill your guts. Just wait, the set up they use is interesting.

Ooo, thanks for the info. So is the math test I took just called a math placement exam? And if so the question still applies, since I failed it I am supposed to take the cc course or just be placed in the lowest ucr math class?

I also took the MAE a few months ago and I didn’t do so hot either. I got placed in Int. Algebra at a Community college too. That means you should take Int. Algebra at a CC and try to pass it with a C or better. No C-. If you do, you will be eligible to take a pre-calc class for business majors. Then you wouldn’t need to take remedial math or anything if you pass that course at a CC. Good luck!
