Mafia, the cop, and the doctor will PM me their actions before each deadline. I’ll announce the mafia’s victim, let the cop know if the investigated player is guilty or innocent, and prevent the doctor’s protected player from dying. Everyone will use this thread to vote for the players they want to lynch.

The nice thing about playing on the internet is that players can communicate privately, enabling a host of strategic nuances. For example, I encourage the cop to PM each player who turns out innocent, helping the villagers to overcome their disadvantage of being uninformed.

i can’t play :frowning: im leaving tomorrow :)

Hold on. I don’t think that PMs should be allowed, except between mafia at night. The idea of overcoming the state of being uninformed is totally offset if the communication on the thread isn’t even trustworthy, which it by definition isn’t if it is subject to the “nuances” brought on by PM.

I have played Mafia online on a Mafia forum (for awhile, maybe I should get back into it) and the number two rule was no PMs, with number one being no editing posts or posting your role PM.

On the forum where I play mafia, PMs are pretty essential to the game. I initially thought that PMs would give the villagers too great of an advantage over the mafia, but then I experienced how easy it is for people to lie. Since Mafia is already a game built upon strategic deceit, it makes sense that players should have many opportunities to lie to each other. The game is actually quite balanced when mafia and innocents are all allowed to send and receive PMs.

So when do we start the game?

I was thinking the same thing. It looks like as many people have signed up as there will be, so we’ll start night #1 tomorrow at 12:00 pm EST. In the meantime, I’ll send role PMs. Since there are 14 players, there will be 4 mafiosi, 1 cop, 1 doctor, and 8 villagers.

Can I still sign up?

I’ll add you, since I’ve not yet assigned roles. (They will be randomized.)

Make that 15 players: 4 mafiosi; 1 cop; 1 doctor; 9 villagers.

can i play too?

Yes.

That makes 16 players: 4 mafiosi; 1 cop; 1 doctor; 10 villagers.

I will randomize the role assignments and send PMs in a few minutes. Night #1 will begin at 12:00 pm EST tomorrow. For reference (in case anyone posts his/her role PM), here are what the PMs look like:

Role PMs have been sent. If you did not receive a PM, then you are a villager.

soo whoo shall we kill

…well, somebody has to start it, I guess. Voting for charlieharper by random selection. Nothing personal!

(Is there a specific format we need for our vote? Or is just bolding their name fine?)

I will go for Nomita.

quote=energize

There’s no specific format, although bolding their names is nice.

However, day #1 hasn’t yet begun, so voting is not yet in effect. Day #1 will begin at 12:00 pm EST this Wednesday (Or tomorrow, if all mafiosi, the doctor, and the cop PM me the names of the people they want to assassinate/investigate/protect by then.)

Whoops. Sorry for failing to read carefully… I’m not used to having the non-villagers take action before the voting begins.

Oops. I didn’t quite read that carefully.
