Somehow, with my unbelievably sh1tty grades and OOS status, I've been waitlisted. I'm going to put down a deposit at either William and Mary or UIUC, but I'd probably go to Michigan if I was taken off the waitlist. Anything I can do to help my
cause?

The chance of waitlisted students getting accepted is about 1% so…

Put down your deposit at W&M or UIUC

43 out of ~4300 students were accepted off the waitlist last year

Did you receive your decision today or earlier?

Send your deposit to a college where you have an acceptance. Make a decision about Michigan when and if you get an acceptance if you are interested in accepting a wait list position. Worse case scenario is you lose a deposit. Best case scenario is you have a place to go in the fall that you must like or you never would have applied. Absolute worse case is to not deposit anywhere and never get off the waitlist at Michigan…which has the higher probability.

@getsmart, a few days ago. Why do you ask?

@mom, I’m planning on putting one down at Illinois–their offer of $15K a year in scholarship money in-state is probably be too tough to decline.
