I have been looking up online sat prep courses that have a money back guarantee regarding improvement in SAT scores, and Magoosh has caught my interest. Due to the lack of reviews regarding it, I was wondering if anyone else tried Magoosh before, and whether or not it is a legitimate course?
Does it really lead to the 150+ point increase as it claims? How good is it?

@enaragon Everyone says there “prep” course will increase your score. But majority of kids who took prep courses, only increased by a little points or none (read it all over in CC). I recommended to self-study the SAT, because on test date YOU will be taking the test. Now this advice isn’t for all students, some need a teacher actually teaching, which is ok. I have never used Magoosh course before (read the blog though), if I were you I would try the 7 days with no commitment trial, then if you like it, sign up for it. :)

Oh…is there anyone who has used Magoosh that want to chip in? I’m pretty sure prep courses aren’t as bad as you state it if not Magoosh would lose a lot of money due to the money back guarantee? Unless I’m missing something?

@enaragon I didn’t state there were bad, but not necessary to get a high score in the SAT. Many parents and students think that prep courses, are needed to score in the 2200+ (not true). But if you are scoring around 1800 (or lower), and want to go to 2000 ~ 2100, go ahead and try the course. But if your in 2100 ~ 2200 range, prep courses will be useless. My two cents.

Also Magoosh states you must have taken the SAT before, and e-mail us a copy of your “Before” score report to help@magoosh.com when you sign up. A scan or screenshot of your official online score report is fine. This the only way you will get a refund, if you didn’t increase by 150+ points. <a href=“Score Guarantee”>http://sat.magoosh.com/score-guarantee

^^@enaragon I think your logic regarding money back guarantees is flawed. The guarantee persuades many people to purchase the service who wouldn’t purchase it otherwise. Some proportion of those people request a refund. The total revenue for the company is still higher than if there were no guarantee. The marginal cost of servicing those people who requested refunds could approach zero.

I bought Magoosh yesterday and am using their intensive 7-day study plan for the SAT that’s coming up in May 2nd. It’s hard to keep up, but overall I find it helpful. Their customer service is great, I only wanted to buy it for a week because I didn’t need the $79 month if my SAT was in a week, and I shot them an email and they responded within a day, giving back $59 and saying they’re only gonna charge me $20 for a week which I thought was really nice of them to do. I recommend buying the premium service, the free 7 day service severely lacks, it only has like 10 practice problems instead of hundreds.
Good luck!
