My D18 is a comfortable four points above last year’s cutoff here in Oklahoma. Yesterday she received a thick packet from OU’s National Scholars Program, with a “congratulations on your excellent PSAT score” letter. Included is a folder with helpful information specific to their National Scholars Program, and even a hand-written note from a current OU National Scholar from our town, offering to help my D navigate the NM process. This is all very effective, but it seems rather risky, as it could be interpreted as a “congratulations, you will be a NMSF.” Does OU have access to the statewide PSAT results? Can they, with some certainty, extrapolate who the NMSFs here in Oklahoma will be? Or are they making an educated guess, like we all try to do here? What if, heaven forbid, they send these packets out to students who DON’T make the cutoff?
My S18 got the email from them with same info, but looking carefully it does say he “may” qualify for the OU National Merit Scholar program.
My D received the email as well, but I didn’t see it. I feel for the kids who don’t go over the language carefully and misinterpret it.
