I wasnt going to write this, but is the umich mail server down or something?
http://mail.umich.edu/...keeps on saying could not locate remote server...
Do any of you guys got the same problem or is it just me?

can't access it either

same here...

I can get on it.

I just e-mailed two of my professors to see if they could send me a list of the books that I'll need for their classes this fall. Someone told me it would be a lot cheaper to buy them online (such as at Amazon) than it would be at the book stores in Ann Arbor. Apparently, they really rip us off. I'm now hoping that it worked at all since more than one of you are having the same problem.

That's strange that you guys can't get on the server.

The email servers are periodically down. If you have a CAEN email account (i.e. an engineer), that is hardly ever down.

The bookstores all know what books you'll need for your classes. Amazon.com may be only marginally cheaper (we're talking <$1), but odds are that there will be books that you'll have to get at Michigan (i.e. for chemistry or physics lab, etc.) so you might as well go and pre-order the books now and pick them up before class. I use Ulrichs.com because if you buy a certain amount, you get a card worth some amount of money back a few months later (i.e. spend $300 and get $15 back).

I just IMed him and asked him again about buying books, and he said that you can find them at cheaper prices than you would at the bookstores. You just have to be good at looking for the deals and be willing to get books that are used (sometimes they're cheaper new but not always). He said that he's gotten the prices down by half or one third of the original price. I asked him where to look, and he said to check out Amazon or half.com. (He just graduated from Michigan this spring so I think he's had some practice at looking for these daals over the years.) I really don't care whether or not my books are used or new so it will probably be a good move to just check this out for me. (I'm thinking that I may actually ask for his help in looking for the deals when the time comes.) We'll see what happens.

You IMED him??? They have AIM?? thats sweet lol

Umar,

What are you talking about? LOL.

Yes, many people do have Instant Messager (even people who have already graduated). He's a friend so, yes, I do know his screen name. :) I guess I should have said something to that effect from the start. He was the one that gave me the idea to e-mail my professors about the book lists to make sure that they are the ones that will be used in the courses (and haven't been changed since the bookstores got the lists) and to try to find deals online.

What did you think? LOL. Nevermind. I don't think I want to know the answer to that. ;)

hahaha, I thought you said you IMed the professor. I dunno that amazes me cause I've never talked to a teacher online before via AIM. Actually...I did once and he blocked me, lol.

I was wondering if you were thinking that way. LOL. That's hilarious.
