Mail room and moving in

Does anyone know how long the line will be at the mail room on move-in day? we shipped two boxes, including one with bedding, so we'll want to get them on move-in day, and I'm just wondering how long we'll have to stand in line...

Seriously? No one here has ever dealt with the mail room? Not even Snarf?

I wish I could help, but I live 25 minutes away so I haven’t had to deal with the mail room on move in day. I imagine it would be fairly crowded, though.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it took a long long long time…

We shipped our items to the hotel we will be staying at in order to avoid lines at the mail center. Hotel has been very accomodating. Have heard lines will be long, plus we didn’t want to park by mail services, then by the dorm. Sounds like it might be too late for you to consider this? Maybe just one small package with an extra set of sheets?

25 minutes? Luuuucky! I just realized we forgot to mail her printer, adding yet another trip to the mail room for her…

I decided that I didn’t want to go through the hassle of finding the mail room so I’m checking in another bag with all my bed-stuff :(

Ha, sorry, I only live 6 hours (by car), so we purposefully avoided use of the mail room.

I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s gonna suck. Bring a book.

We’re taking a cab to Tufts from the hotel, so the parking by the mail room thing isn’t an option. However, I called mail services today and spoke to a guy who said we might be able to come by the day before (we’ll be on campus) and pick up stuff, and that the mail room would be much less busy. He seemed to think there might be a way to get into the dorm room just to drop boxes off, and asked my D’s name and dorm room number (?) though I’m sceptical. Either way, I’ll bring a book :)

What if you’re getting there early (the 30th)? It won’t be that long then, right???

Right, and if you have access to your dorm room, you should be fine. I don’t know that we will, but we’ll see.

Just a word of caution, Mail Services is at the back of Hill Hall at the bottom of the hill. If you have heavy things you want to have transportation to help you carry them up the hill (probably not a problem for most people, but a pain for students when we get 20 pounds of books delivered and live on the other side of campus). Be sure to have enough people to carry stuff if you don’t have someone to put it in their trunk.

BTW no place to sit in mail services. It’s a small room with a bell that turns on when you go in. Everyone stands in line and hands over an ID card for them to get your packages (you tell them how many they should look for). Pretty quick during the year.

If your package is big/heavy, you can often get them to drive you to your dorm (but this happens on their schedule, so be prepared to wait). I did that a couple of times when I was student, and I’d be surprised if that option is off the table now.

No they still do.
