I have a textbook that says it was delivered on amazon and on the postal service website, but I never got it. I asked the community center about it, because they have already misplaced several of my packages, and they checked and didn't have it and told me to call the USPS. So I called USPS and they said it was delivered and signed for, so if my dorm doesnt have it the "campus mail room" must have it. Is there such a room, and if so, any idea how to get a hold of them? I asked the community center folks if there was a central mail room before I called USPS because I figured that was where it must be, and they told me there wasn't one, and I know the kids that work there have signed for my packages before. I don't get it.

I tried to google it myself and all I found was something that looked like it was for official university mail and not just standard stuff, but maybe I am misreading. I am confused. And how long do I pursue this before I just cave and order the book again? I really can't afford to do that but last year campus mail lost $200 in cash that someone had sent to me for MONTHS so I am getting worried.

If it was “signed for”, then on the USPS tracking page, there should be a link for you to follow to get the signature of the person who signed for it.

I would start with the name of whoever signed for the package and work back from there. Go to your dorm mailroom and ask them to tell you how to contact the office where that particular person works. If they signed for it, they should be responsible for it until you come pick it up and you sign for it.

It does not say who signed for it either on amazon or on the USPS website-- I’ve never tracked on USPS before but it has shown the name of the signer every other time on amazon. I asked the people at the dorm desk and they told me that packages are delivered directly to them and they did not receive it, and to call USPS to ask them where it was delivered to. USPS told me it was delivered either to Newberry Residence (which I don’t think it would have been since we pick up our packages at barbour? we have no front desk in newberry) or to “the campus mail room” and told me that I should check with my residence to ask where it is. They are both telling me to talk to each other and nobody has an answer. I can’t even figure out where to go from here!

Usually it tells me on amazon the last name of whoever signed for my package and it does not this time, it just says “Delivered.”

Were you able to speak to someone at Amazon? I know it can be a challenge to track down a phone number for them. But I think it is their responsibility to get the package to you and you should not have to run around looking for it. Have Amazon interface with the USPS on their time, meanwhile I would demand that they resend the book to you federal express!

I bought it from the amazon marketplace, so I am not sure there is anything they could do. If I tried to go through the seller I am sure they would just say that the package was confirmed as delivered by the USPS and blame them.

Oh, I see. When I sell on Amazon Marketplace I use the delivery confirmation feature, which does not require a signature, but does confirm delivery. That must be what happened. I guess in that case you have to deal with the post office, make a complaint to the postmaster, and to the dorm person in charge of the package delivery. Do it in writing. That package is someplace, and they need to figure out where. I would also email your marketplace seller and tell them you never got the package, they might have some luck tracing it from their end. At some point, if it isn’t a lot of money, I guess you just move on. I’m sure with classes and everything else, you don’t need to be spending all your time on this package delivery.

I don’t need the book for several weeks yet, it’s for a literature class and we are reading a couple books before it, but it’s just so frustrating to lose money over someone else’s mistake. I sent a complaint to USPS and they basically said that my dorm must have lost it and the only way I can tell them that no, they didn’t really get it, would be to start over and just sent another complaint.

It was supposed to have been delivered at 7:30am on the 10th. I watched the staff at barbour check the room for the package and it was nowhere to be found and it wasn’t in their log book-- if it had been delivered there supposedly it would have been signed for. Like I said, last year they lost a letter with a significant amount of cash in it until like December, having been sent in September. And when it was found, nobody could tell me where it had been all that time. So I am not particularly confident that they’ll find it any time soon. I ordered another copy of the book but now that’s a meal I am not getting this week. It wouldn’t be so frustrating if I could at least figure out who to contact to ADDRESS the matter but near as I can tell I am just supposed to sit here and hope it turns up.

You should also contact Mail Services at (734) 764-9227 and see if they have it because it was refused at the building it was delivered to as a wrong address. If they don’t, contact somebody (who isn’t a student) at University Housing at (734) 763-3164. The time for dealing with the people at your dorm has passed.

Sorry this is late…but I went through basically the same experience last week. It was REALLY frustrating. I added extra money for 1 day shipping and 2 day shipping on Amazon. The books (4 textbooks) arrives SIX days late! Never ever buy books on Amazon again! A huge part of it is Amazon’s fault; I checked on the UPS web, it doesn’t even show it’ll be delivered after 1 or 2 days. It shows it’ll arrive in four days! The other order…they said they have already “attempted” the delivery once, but no one was there to receive it…(it’s 9 oclock in the morning…I don’t really think there is no one in the community center…) Then after 6 days of waiting the books finally “arrived.” We can get FedEx packages directly from the community center. Then I checked the books “already arrived” and signed by someone in the mailroom. They are doing this stupid “distribute yellow slips” thing that unless you receive the slip, you will never get your books! Their reason was “if everyone is trying to look for their packages, it’ll be crazy.” Gee thanks for that I didn’t get my book till like 8 days later all together (with the delay of Amazon and the housing staff) and I was way behind in my classes. It was a huge hassel to photocopy my homework and check out textbooks in the library (2 hours use only n the book can’t leave the library!) I was extremely unsatisfied…I called Amazon several times…the only compensation was the return of my $3.99 shipping fee!

I did two orders for two different classes. One is two-day shipping (UPS thus mailroom), the other one’s one-day shipping (FedEx; community center). The FedEx one they said they have “attempted” the delivery at 9 am but no one was there; the UPS one arrived even later (I did the UPS order days before the FedEx one) than the FedEx one…and after it arrived and “signed,” it took extra days for the mailroom staff to distribute the yellow slips. Both of my orders were delayed.
