I know we get punished if we get incorrectly sent mail, but what makes it incorrect? Someone said not putting an American flag stamp on it would get us punished. Is that true? What are the addressing requirements?

Do not use a first name when addressing the mail to a New Cadet.

Your company can be added later. Your family can inform your friends immediately after R-Day. It's really only important during the time you're in the field as it helps to sort the mail.

The whole thing about the stamp may be urban legend. We were told on R-Day by cadre that they don't really make NCs do more pushups if a friend uses the wrong kind of stamp. We used flag stamps only - just in case.
If some of your friends are practical jokers, you may want to warn them to use the proper format. Lots of jokes are made about the envelopes addressed to New Cadet Sweetie-pie _____ (or worse). I'll bet nobody wants to be on the receiving end of those jokes.

Please keep in mind that you'll be doing pushups and more pushups all summer. There is purpose to the madness. At the end of Beast you'll be stronger, your form will be better, and you'll be more ready to pass the APFT.

We sent plenty of mail during beast with no american flag stamp---don't sweat it. There will be plenty of other drama this summer!
Just don't do something to the envelope that will draw attention!

My CC just went back to USMAPS and gave me the address where to mail. It said New Cadet: First Name Last Name
PO Box XXXXX
United States Military Academy
West Point, NY 10997

I thought that we weren't supposed to use first names, just New Cadet and then the last name.

I would like to know how I should address the letters before I give out the address to the rest of my family.

Can anybody comment?

New Cadets have no first names during Beast.

However the official letter in the mail does state first name in the mailing address.

welcome to the army
