Ok so, I have been getting a lot of propaganda from CMU since I applied, from admissions booklets to little brochures and all that. I was wondering if they send this stuff to all people who apply or just to people who they think may meet their admissions criteria? My calculus professor who taught in an ivy said that stuff usually goes out to the people that have a god chance, based on their tests and such. Is this true?

it would be so awesome if it was (since i too get lots of stuff from cmu).. but i don't think it's true.. but don't quote me on that.

everyone on their mailing lists get them

My D was quite disappointed when another school mailed her tons of stuff and then deferred her for EA. So I wouldn't read too much into the mailings although it is very tempting to do so.

I know I got letters based on my SAT scores, because I always got more letters right after I took a test. I think they'll send you letters if your SAT scores are about right for their school, but you should in no way consider yourself accepted because you got mail from them. I've received mail from Ivies and I don't think I would stand a chance of being accepted to them...
