How does mail work at college? Is it like an apartment?

Please answer, somebody! If I want to buy books off of Amazon how will this go about? Since the mail boxes are obviously too small, will the UPS guy have to come up to my door?

you'll usually have a small mailbox either in your dorm or in a centralized location. If you get a package, it will usually be delivered to a package office, they will put a slip in your mail or send you an email telling you to come pick up your package.

Doesn't your school provide you with this information?

Every school is going to be different, but my school uses mail rooms for dormitory housing (the apartments have individual mailboxes serviced directly by the post office). The post office delivers everything to the mail room and, if the package is too big to put into the mail box, they put a slip inside telling me to pick up my package from them.

that's how my school does it too, I think that's pretty standard.

Your school should provide a mailbox and give you the address before the semester starts. If a package is too big, they hold it for you just like a post office would (UPS, FedEx, DHL packages and U.S. Postal all go to the same address)
