Mailed application without requesting one?

Recently I was mailed an application to Harvard. Safe to say this was a surprise since I had not made any previous contact with them. I was just wondering how common this is and if many of you have experienced the same thing with Harvard or any other universities?

Not any type of sign unfortunately…Harvard mails 60,000+ letters and you can request an application in the mail (DONT - consider the environment). It was either (1) an accident or (2) someone requested a paper copy be sent to your address (??). Either way, keep doing your best but don’t think Harvard is recruiting you. you would KNOW if they are (athletics; extreme intellectual ability)

Thanks I was just curious

They will mail you the application without anyone requesting it. It is part of their promotional mailing.
