Mailing address while at Princeton

Does Princeton assign everyone a mailbox number to use as his or her address during all 4 years there? Or do you use your dorm address and have to give all your friends and relatives a new address every year?

Currently, freshman and sophomores use their dorm addresses and those change the first two years. And then juniors and seniors get a mailbox in Frist, which stays the same the last two years. But I don't know how that will change with the advent of 4 year colleges.

Our dorm addresses are, I believe,

First Name Last Name

Dorm Name

Princeton, NJ 08544-XXXX

You also need to add your residential college to that, unless you're in Forbes, because then dorm = college.
So it'd be:
First Last Name

Dorm Name

Residential College
Princeton University
Princeton, NJ 08544

And if you're in forbes you have a different zip code

According to the orange information sheet that we received, it should be:
Your name
Princeton University
Residential College Name
Room and Dormitory
Princeton, NJ 08544

So if you have to use your dorm address that means you have to change your address for your bank or credit card statements every year until you get a mailbox in Frist. A minor nuisance, but everything else about Princeton is so wonderful.

what's forbes college's zip code? yep, i landed in forbes...

It's 08540.

That's odd; all the mail I've received from Forbes says that I should use the ZIP code 08544 when people send me mail, and the return address for the addresses at Forbes all use 08544 as well.

Is there a new change this year?

Truthfully, it really doesn't matter what zip code you use, Princeton is so small that they're going to know what you're talking about anyway. But yeah, 08540 is what they used last year for the class of 09.

Sadly, the quality of the mail system is somewhat lacking. If you're getting bills at your campus address, I'd keep an eye on the calendar because the mail can be quite slow, especially over the summer (when they forward stuff home) and school breaks. Slower still if the roommates you share a box with forget to give you your mail (or are otherwise untrustworthy)... I've known people who got P.O. Boxes in Palmer Square for privacy.

yeah, the regular mail system is terrible. I think that it's mostly the college's fault because the students in the mail room tend to misplace things. Also, i think that the mail has to be processed by the university and then by the individual colleges. Ive had birthday cards show up 3 months later (and I checked my mail semi-regularly). That said, the package system is great, and frist is very fast, so whenever my parents really needed to send me something (even like a letter or something) they'd send it fedex or ups or whatever.

If you are going to use princeton as your mailing address for credit cards or bank statements, id be sure to watch the date and pay online if you can. Although I used my home address for everything, my friends used the one at school and would regularly get their bills either the day that they were due or even later than that. A p.o. box seems a little extreme, but just keep in mind that the campus letter mail is super slow. (also even slower are packages delivered through the college.... I haven't yet figured out how they decide which packages go where, but usually smaller packages are the ones that end up being delivered through the college, ive had things from over 4 months ago show up randomly)
