I’m a HS senior who’s applying to Columbia RD. I want to submit a supplementary rec to them; their website says it has to be done via snail mail.
I have a copy of my recommender’s letter, since she let me edit it. Can I simply go to the post office and send it, or does she have to be the one to do so?
I would let the recommender approve the changes (if he/she hasn’t already done so) and sign the final copy of the letter. It doesn’t matter who puts it in the mailbox.
@Burrito12 By signing the waiver you are not allowed to ask/demand to see the recommendations but you are certainly free to read them and even suggest changes if the recommender offers that as an option.
One of my D’s recommenders gave her a copy of his LOR and asked for her opinion – My D noted some very awkward wording in one sentence which he was happy to adjust (certainly one should not attempt to edit the crux of a LOR). I don’t see anything at all unethical about that situation.
