I'm currently a junior interested in metalwork/jewelry, and I came across this tiny college on a google search...I was wondering if anyone on cc had any experience with MECA, since it has an interesting location and extremely small class (and high acceptance percentage)...I am also looking at SCAD (my top choice), UGA, RISD (very hard reach for me), UT-Austin, CCA, Pratt, and Parsons (though I do not want to stay in the city for college)

I have to tell you just how much MECA admission people are nice.
There are threads under the pile for pre college and some comments in there are for college.

MECA came to my high school art class to give a presentation and had I applied to art schools it would have been on my list. The representative who also works for admissions was very nice and I was impressed by the artwork she presented. Also, Portland is a pretty sweet town.

thanks for your responses....my dad is a little wary because of its lack of reputation, but I think i'll apply...maybe they'll be at the conservatory/art school fair my school is having tommorow

If you can, take the tour. The facilities are in an old renovated downtown department store and the light and views are fabulous! It's mu daughter's second choice, after NHIA in Manchester, NH.
