I'm having trouble with my classes. I planning on changing some of my classes to credit/no credit type grading. Would this help me maintain a good gpa with my regular grading classes and increase my chances to get into a uc school or would it hurt me if i change the type of grading? My gpa is 3.2 applying to uc santa cruz, ucla, and uc davis.

Generally, it depends on what classes you're taking for credit/no credit. Most schools dont mind if you have one or two, but not for classes that are main pre-reqs for your major or igetc. Your best bet is checking either with your school's counseling center or your prospective schools themselves to make sure that doing this won't be detrimental to your chances.

Out of curiosity, what's your major?

i want to major in pschology. the class im having hard time is my zoology class.

im also a out of state student, so would having a credit/no credit type class affect my chance of getting in?

I'd say that's a pretty safe bet for doing pass/no pass. As long as it's not required for your major, you should be ok.

If you really really want ucla, try to boost your gpa a little. Average for psych is around 3.5 or 3.6. Extenuating circumstances explained in your essay may help round you out though. I'd say you're safe for Santa Cruz. And honestly, I don't really follow Davis' stats so I have no clue there. But good luck and stuff.

No, I think your out of state status will effect your chances MUCH more than one little pass/no pass grade. It'll be more difficult for you being out of state, but I still don't think that one p/np grade will affect anything.

thanks. What do you think is the limit for pass/no pass option. is pass/ no pass same as credit/no credit.

Yeah, its the same. And as for the limit..I honestly don't know. It's hard to say. I think two would be pushing it, but it really depends on the school and I think the circumstances for your switching over. If the class doesn't count for your major or general eds, it won't even be looked at and if this is the case, by all means take it p/np, because it will be disregarded anyway. But, yeah. I'd say maybe 2 for classes that count for either of those things.

what would be right to do? genereal ed.?

well, no, not really. kinda. like, if you were taking a class that you didn't need to complete GE and didn't need for your major, thatd be one to do. For instance, at my CC, I needed an algebra class as a pre-req for a transferable class. It didnt count for my GE or major, so i took it pass/no pass because i knew the school wouldn't look at it anyways. That said though, it'd definitely be safer to take a GE p/np than a pre-req for your major.

zoology would be?

oh yeah i still need to fulfill 60 credits.

Well, because you're out of state, I don't really know what your GE requirements are. But I'm thinking as a psych major that you should be fine taking zoology p/np.

Really I think that as long you don't make a habit out of it, you're fine.

What is good?

?? in regards to what?

on the decision to p/np option

can anybody list the schools on my chances in getting into any uc's from hardest to easiest.

Well, using the schools you said you were interested in, id say

ucla
ucd
ucsc

what about all uc's?

eh, it really depends. being out of state is a disadvantage and so its kinda hard to place. Some schools may be more forgiving than others, and so forth.
