major advice

Hello,

Next year i am going to be a student at Hamline university and have been narrowing down what i want to study. I have decided on economics and finance and would love to double major. Assuming i am not able to double major i have to decide between BBA finance and minoring in economics and business administration(and maybe computer science) versus BA in economics and minoring in business administration and maybe computer science.

I would like to hear some pros and cons for either job outlook what ever. Also i have not decided on whether or not i would be wanting to attend graduate school. And would anyone recommend a BBA over a BA?

Why would you want to get a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, and then increase your workload (or graduation date) further with a minor in the same topic of your college core, Business Administration? A complete waste. If your goal is to work in the finance industry, then there is no question that between those two choices (Economics and Finance), you should major in Finance. Computer Science or MIS would be a good minor, as would Accounting.

Explanation of Finance over Economics:
As I said, if your specific goal is to work in the finance industry, the more directly relevant and technical your degree is (if the field is at all technical), the better your job prospects.

I’m probably too biased for this one as I am majoring in economics with a minor in business administration and computer science.

I think for this type of question it’s going to come down to what interests you more. Take 2 or 3 finance and economics classes and go with what feels right. Also, I would say do finance if banking is your goal and do economics if you want to take a broader approach.

I automaticly get the business administration minor because of the classes I’m takeing anyway.

Immotion that’s what I figured id end up doing thanks for the awsome advice.
