Hi,

I'm interested in top universities (Ivy's, etc.), and I was wondering how important major awards are on an application. Otherwise, I'm very well rounded, with good grades, intensely competitive sports, and great volunteer work, but I was wondering if not having any really outstanding awards would be a deal-breaker. Thanks!

Your essays better be spectacular. Ivy Leagues are selective enough as it is, so you need as many factors as possible to go your way.

^Riding off of that…

While many applicants to the most selective schools have won recognition from Intel, USAMO, etc., the majority of students have to rely on EC’s, test scores, teacher recs, and – most importantly – essays.

Major awards certainly wouldn’t hurt you in the admissions process, but not having any isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker.
