Major biology

Hi, I am a junior in high school. I have been searching some colleges that fit to me. I wanna major molecular biology or cellular biology in college. My GPA is 3.83, and I have 33 in ACT and over 700 in three sat subject tests( math II, chemistry, biology EM). Can anybody recommend some colleges to me? I need help. Thank you.

Your choices are potentially broad. Some mention of preferences/contraints (geographic, cost, etc.) would be helpful to you in terms of getting meaningful replies.

  1. Determine any constraints you have be they financial, geographic or anything else.
  2. Think of features you are looking for in a college (ex. size, geographic, sports, Greek Life etc.)
  3. Try the Supermatch function to the left under find a college.
  4. Get your hands on a couple of college guide books (ex. Fiske, Princeton Review) and start reading. You can likley find them at your HS guidance office or in the library if you don’t want to buy them.

Quite frankly a ton of college could be fits for you at this point.

You have great stats. What are your preferences, & what is your budget?

Budget : below $45k
Location : prefer East Coast

Biology programs are a staple at most campuses. What is your career goal? Research?

So, your parents are saying that they will pay $45k per year? If so, it sounds like you wont qualify for financial aid. Have your parents run the NPCs on a few schools’ websites. don’t do HPYS since their results will be misleading.

Chicago has a new undergraduate program on molecular engineering - some cutting edge stuff (my D applied there last year). But you’d likely have to up your stats to get in (my D’s stats were higher than yours and she got waitlisted but not admitted; granted it’s not all about stats).

I would broaden your major out to biology. There are some undergraduate colleges that offer molecular or cell biology as a major, but for the most part undergrads start out broad and then narrow down on the graduate level.
