Major: BME or Applied math

I'm trying to decide whether to major in BIomedical Engineeirng or Applied Math as a premedical student?

BIOMEDICAL Engineering: demanding curriculum, etc

Applied math: technical nature, however flexible, so I get in bio-related classes in there.

Any experience and thoughts are appreciated

do which one you will enjoy the most. Seriously, throw out all the objective measures and go with your heart on this one.

go with applied math, bme is absolutely not worth it, trust me.

Agreed. Remember, your major is what you'll be studying for the next four years.

I am a sophomore pre-med student who is a math major, so I can tell you to definitely go with applied math. (I'm more of a pure person, but whatever, that doesn't matter.) For me, it is nice to be able to switch from memorizing biology or chemistry facts to working equations or writing proofs or something like that. You are right that math is a very flexible major in that you can take stuff whenever it works out for you since there is not a set sequence of classes. Plus, at least at my school, it does not require that many classes within the major, so I only need to take 1 each of my last 5 semesters here. This leaves me plenty of room to fit the fuzzy and pre-med classes in, as well as have free time for research, volunteering, being lazy, etc. I personally think that math is actually an easier major since we do not have to deal with all the labs that our science counterparts do. But hey, to each his own. Since this is turning into rambling, I will end it now, but let me know if I can help you in any other way.

Oh, and being a math major is one way you can kind of stand out in the med school application process (where everybody and their mom is a biology/biochem major).

I'm a BME major and I'm too far in it to quit now, but if I were to redo it again I would have picked something else. It is just way too much work. For example this semester I have to take 6 very difficult courses, not by choice but out of necessity. And in general having to balance this many classes reaks havoc on my GPA, sure its good but it could be better if I have more time.
