For the past three weeks, I have been stuck between UCLA and the University of Alabama (I’m from Southern California, so UCLA definitely has the positives/negatives of close proximity). However, I decided just today that I’m going to the University of Alabama. (YAY!)

The only problem? I can’t figure out how to do the SIR and pay my enrollment deposit. I must have scoured mybama for two hours. Can someone please walk me through it?

The link is on the academics tab of myBama, left side of the page, under admissions, admitted undergraduate students, submit freshman enrollment deposit. Feel free to PM me if you need further help. Congratulations on choosing UA and Roll Tide!

Congratulations, Krazie!! Wow, you chose Bama over UCLA, Ithaca, Clemson, Washington, UNC, Miami, and Michigan. My son will be stoked to hear that yet another Californian is heading to Tuscaloosa. If you feel comfortable answering, what turned the . . . ahem, Tide for you in choosing Alabama?

Welcome to the Bama family, Spag! My Son just also committed . We do roll out the Crimson (Red) carpet! You can steal that one too, Mom!! If you don’t, then you will be reinforcing what my kids have said all along. That it’s corny.

Mike…Don’t worry…You’re just feeling down because your D has a later select date, but she still will have choices left! :)

I just called housing. They have more than enough honors beds for those left to select their rooms. As a matter of fact, after July 1st, they will start allowing non-honors to fill up the empty suites.

There are still many beds left in Riverside and Lakeside honors.

Its been a long journey . . .from me making Krazie select UA as one of the colleges she would apply to because of the Presidential Scholarship she would qualify for (the other 11 colleges she applied to she got to choose), to having UA be in the bottom third of her accepted college choices, to making her visit it during her spring break this April before she “denied” it, to liking UA A LOT better than she thought she would when she visited it. The organized tour and visiting Drs Sharpe, Halli and the study abroad program coordinator really helped – not to mention eating dinner at Full Moon BBQ, and seeing the honor dorms and knowing she would get her own private bedroom (at UCLA, her older sister was in a triple last year as a Freshman), to 2 weeks of agonizing over her decision, to finally choosing UA.

I think it will be a great choice for her and am excited of the opportunites that will present themselves to her. Hubby and I were rooting for UA because of the scholarship and knowing that Krazie wants to attend law school afterwards, but wanted K to make up her own mind.

Krazie will be able to study abroad and have her scholarship cover the tuition, she will be a “bigger fish” in a smaller pond – unlike at UCLA where she didn’t get a scholarship and would have just be one student of many ( and a small fish in a BIG pond). UA has sports, and an opportunity to experience life outside of California, and in a place where southern hospitality and friendliness is legend. During the tour, we got assured that she would be fine not being in a sorority, and wouldn’t feel “left out”…and we liked that there are about 38% OOS students in the Honors program.

She won’t be able to come home very often but we are hoping that she will make friends and get invited to weekends away. We’ll have to see how much she can fit in one suitcase . . .she’ll have to bring another suitcase full from home when she comes home for Thanksgiving.

Any of you planning to come to UA for parents’ weekend? Is that worth the money to fly and be there that weekend?

Wait and see what Bama has scheduled for that weekend.

Will Krazie be coming out alone in August or with parent(s)? If you come then, you may feel it’s too soon to come for Parents Weekend - which is soooo much earlier this year than normally.

Yeah, I better be coming home for Thanksgiving. Just saying, I am not down for only coming home twice a years (spring break/winter break).

Anyways, I felt that studying abroad was vital for me, something I wouldn’t be able to do at UCLA, since I want to double major in history and international studies. I want to be either an international lawyer or work in a non-profit organization (such as the International Justice Mission), so I felt that having those goals and not studying abroad would be ignorant of me when I had the chance to. And since UCLA and Alabama were tied for a while (actually, UCLA was a bit ahead), I decided Alabama was better for what I want for my future.

Do remember that the Iron Bowl (football vs. Auburn) is the day after Thanksgiving, so it might be preferable to go home for Fall Break in October instead.

Once again, I’m happy you chose Alabama. I know UA wasn’t very high on your original list, but I’m glad you were able to visit and ended up choosing to become a member of the UA family. Roll Tide!

They did this year even though the Iron Bowl was in Auburn. Since Thanksgiving is an expensive time to travel and close to winter break, some students may not wish to go home or want to go to the Iron Bowl.
