<p>Berurah: I hesitate to try to speak for him, but it's basically a combination of the politics of medicine these days (esp. the dysfunctional insurance system--he's in favor of national single-payer), the fear of lawsuits (never been sued but knows of many cases where the lawsuit outcome had nothing to do with the physician's competence), and mostly, the stress of always worrying about missing something, or somehow not being perfect, which, when children's lives are at stake, there's a need to be so.</p>
