Major change after transfer to 4-year university

Hello,

I have a question regarding a major change after transfer. I am currently working on major requirements at a community college and have already applied to UCs for Fall 2013 as a Marine Biology major. Although I've been considering Bioengineering and Computer Science as a minor recently.

I have looked at assist.org and looked under the major requirements for the majors I mentioned, and they're almost the same except for the fact that Bioengineering and Computer Science require more courses. Right now I'm working on the second-quarter of the chemistry, biology, and calculus series.

If I were to get into a UC as a Marine Biology major, will I be able to change into Bioengineering and possibly minor in computer science? If so, will I be able to take any other required lower-division major requirements at the UC before moving onto upper-division courses?

Also, I may not be able to finish the last two quarters of the Physics series (I've already complete one quarter), and I understand that I may have to stay at the community college to finish these courses before I transfer (assuming I've been accepted), but how will I go about the major change if this were to happen instead?

Personally it's more important for me to know what I want to do now and how to make it work, rather than worry about how long I will be in school for.

From what I have read, major choice has a lot more to do with getting accepted for transfers than for HS applicants. If it were that easy to switch, I could put my major down as computer science, Russian literature, or another unpopular major and switch to something like economics.

You should phone the admissions departments and ask!

It may be OK to switch the major to Bioengineering or Computer Science after admitted. You need to check with the departments.
