Major change at Berkeley on appeal as transfer student

Hey guys, I just have a few questions about the appeal process if I'm intending to change majors.

Originally I applied to Cal as an Econ major and was turned down, however, I was looking to either do applied math or econ. The last semester, I took a few classes that favors an Applied math major and found it much more beneficial in terms of what I intend on doing.

I have a lot of the prerequisite finished for Applied Math as well as Econ. However, I applied as an Econ major at the time because I thought it was something I was more interested in.

I have a clue as to how I want to write my appeal. However, should i mention that I'm looking to change majors and some how fit that in? I just need some idea for appeal.

My GPA is pretty low at 3.2. However, I have a few accomplishments that I'm pretty proud of especially for someone my age. I choose to go to a CC due to financial issues, and I'm finishing in good financial position. Became a small time investor and turn a good return over the last two years at a little under 3500%. Working in a decently high position for a small construction/development company (slow business the past year).

I will not do that, because I got rejected by Berkeley as applied math student, I have 3.95 gpa, good ps, the only reason I can think of is I missed one math class as my pre…I am thinking to appeal too…How I don’t even know how I can start…since I don’t have any new information to add…

I got rejected as applied math as well. Every pre-req completed, not a very good GPA (3.40) but my major GPA is 3.86.
Not that I was that strong of an applicant, but maybe they’re canceling the program.

Personally I wouldn’t tell them that you’re switching majors… This won’t do much for your appeal since 1) it isn’t compelling 2) Berkeley probably wants to see that you’re passionate about something, especially your major… And obviously if you really were passionate about applied math you would have applied for that in the first place.

can i call them and ask the reason I got denied?

citusguy: They say on the rejection FAQ that they can’t handle such calls due to the volume of applications and confidentiality reasons.
But I don’t see any reason anyone shouldn’t be strong and ignore it.
