major change: engineering

I'm going to be a baby gator this fall and am currently enrolled as a Mechanical Engineering Major. However, my interests have changed since I submitted my application, and I want to switch into general engineering to explore the field before I commit. How do I go about switching?

Also, I'm interested in UF's new biomedical engineering program. How difficult is it to be accepted?

My son was an engineering major (exploratory) but he just switched his major to microbiology. Before changing his major he was also interested in the biomedical engineering major and an adviser told him that you had a better chance of getting drafted into the NFL than getting into biomedical engineering which I was really angry about. Talk about raining on someone’s parade.

Since it’s a new program - they currently only accept about 30 students into the program. Hopefully that number will increase as the programs gains it’s footing. Keep your GPA way up in your first two years to be a serious contender.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Was changing his major difficult?

It’s easy to switch, just talk to the new advisor and fill out some forms, etc.
