I've got admitted to UCB in college of engineering as freshmen. I applied bioengineering as my major; however, the admission letter didn't mention anything about bioengineering major. It simply says that I've been admitted to College of Engineering Spring 2012.

So I wonder does UCB let students choose their major again in junior year, or Do I declare the major again during CalSO, regarless which major you've applied in your application?

or, is it easy go change from bioengineering to Electrical Engineering?

I'm so confused, because the admission letter only states I've been admitted to College of Engineering. Anyway, I hope they can let me to declare the major again.

I read on a post here that once you’re admitted as a Spring Admit, you enter to school you were accepted to as undeclared. You don’t formally declare a major until about halfway through your four years.

So whatever you declared on your application is irrelevant.

As far as I know, engineering wants people declared in majors ASAP. Maybe the letter doesn’t mention it, but you should still be admitted as a BioE. If not, you can declare it as soon as you’re here.

The College of Letters and Sciences (L&S) has that policy, that all incoming freshmen are considered undeclared regardless of any major listed on the UC application. The College of Engineering (CoE), on the other hand, does admit students to specific majors and their admissions decisions are made based upon the intended major; CoE does have a ‘undeclared engineering’ choice for major, for those who selected only but that is not the same as the L&S approach.

As a spring admit, consider attending a semester system community college in the fall to get your first semester’s worth of courses done inexpensively. 1 semester of community college + 7 semesters of Berkeley saves thousands of dollars compared to 8 semesters of Berkeley. See [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to match up community college courses to your major requirements.

Spring admits may be offered something called Fall Program for Freshmen, but the course offerings are very limited and do not include the chemistry or physics courses that an engineering student must take starting in the first semester to graduate on time.

As far as major versus undeclared, you may want to contact the College of Engineering to resolve your question. Also, you may want to ask about the procedure for changing majors within the College of Engineering.

You should contact the College of Engineering to make sure that your major preference listed on your application matches the records they have for you.
