Major Change Question - PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I have been talking to many school advisers for the Business and Biology Department.

I have been studying Biology at community college for my initial 4 years. (Last year I took it kind of slow)
I have transferred into UCR as a Biology Major, but have realized that pursuing pre-med with my current GPA (Around 3.0) will not be as successful as I have hoped. I have decided to change my major to Business Administration - Finance, however the Business adviser has told me that it will be impossible for me to EVER change my major at the school, since I am a transfer student and was not accepted as a "business" major. I was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice on the matter?

I was told I could finish my Biology degree and get a minor in Business - Finance, or masters in Finance/Accounting.
If someone could please help me out with some experience / advice that would be great.

I was going to complete the first academic year with all Business classes and hopefully finish all the requirements, but I was told I would still not be able to change my major that way.

Thats odd, usually they let you change the major if you met all the requirements. Is it possible you’re over the 120 max quarter units for major change?

Your advisor’s job is to get you to graduate. They don’t want you to stay for unnecessary lengths at the school if not needed.

As long as you can complete the prereqs and required courses for business admin within the max quarterly allowed units (124 I believe), it should be fine.

I don’t think it’s because you are a transfer and wasn’t accepted as a business major. It’s because of the maximum units limit. There’s a 216 units limit at UCR. From what I understand… it doesn’t matter if you’re planning to minor or double major. You’ve got to finish all that you were planning to do within that 216 units limit. I’m guessing you have too many units booked or something and your adviser didn’t believe that you would be able to fit in the entire Pre-Business + Business courses into the units you still have available to fill.

I thought the 216 units limit was filled only by units obtained at UCR. Check again with your adviser to make sure. You just might be able to get that major change.

How about getting into biostatistics? Statistical programming seems lucrative these days.
