Major change request April 1-May 15?

Mystatus says you are allowed to request a major change between April 1st and May 15th. I was wondering if anyone has experience with trying to change their major through this process instead of internally transferring later. I want to change from public relations to business, and I know business is extremely competitive. Does anyone know if this major change request will ask for any additional info such as updated class rank, resume, etc?

Wondering the same thing. Can’t seem to find any info on this.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get a major change from liberal arts/undeclared to chemical engineering?

@charmin1 Because UT has to auto-admit so many people, they get very selective for certain majors.

Currently doing a major change right now, only an easy one (bio to chem). It all depends on what major you had first, how big of a jump you’re going to the next major, and the overall strength of your application (as some majors are more selective obviously). I emailed wondering how long mine would take, just got this:

“This one is easy.
Going from Biology to Chemistry is still in the College of Natural Sciences.
This could even be done at orientation.
Our major change request system is designed to assist students in their changing goals, but it can take up to 3 weeks for the status check to show the changed major. It is handled on a case by case basis. Since you are not changing colleges, this will be no problem to accommodate.”

@charmin1 Chemical Engineering was VERY competitive this year. Some auto-admit students didn’t get ChemE as their first choice. I would be surprised if you could get your major changed to ChemE at this point.

^ Yep… My friend, rank 3 out of 200, 34 on ACT, took all the same AP classes as me, around 3.8 or so gpa, etc. etc. did not get into ChemE, which really sucks considering he was repping UT pride ever since freshman year haha. I can see if you were already in Cockrell, but this year’s been unfortunately tough.

Has anyone heard back a response either way (major change approved or not)?

Is it possible to go from architecture to business?

Well that was a waste of time. Anyone else have any luck?

Still waiting. Economics–>Geosciences. If you don’t mind me asking, what major were you trying to change into? It sucks because if I am denied I’m going to think I made the wrong choice choosing UT (was admitted to General Engineering at A&M).

Declined here too. Biochem to BioMed Eng.

@rach98n, are they still denying appeals or is this a major change denial?

BioMed Eng is very difficult to get into. A kid from our school with a 34 ACT and top 5% (maybe higher) with internships in the field was denied.

He declined UT (did not wait for a major change) and is headed off to Georgia Tech with the major he wants. More expensive to go OOS, but that’s the major he wanted (more than being at UT).

This was a major change request. Similar stats to your friend. Crazy! We actually have a friend who successfully did a major change from UGS to Engineering (Mech) at orientation. Does anyone know how to go about that?

@rach98n how long ago did your friend change from UGS to ME at Orientation? Was it last summer? Or before that?

Would also like to know how to make this request at orientation.

I can’t remember if he is a freshman or sophomore right now. And I haven’t seen the mom to find out how they changed majors at orientation. I should see her Friday. If so, I’ll let you know.

Economics—>Geological Sciences was approved!
