Hi I’ve been accepted to cal poly for this coming fall and I declared liberal studies which is in the college of math and science. I was wondering how difficult it would be to change majors to nutrition in the college of agriculture or civil engineering in the college of engineering and what would I have to do when I start school?

So basically, what you will need to do once you get started at Poly is go to the guidance office IN YOUR COLLEGE and speak to your counselor because they will have the tools necessary to begin a major change. Because the majors you are considering switching into are in different colleges, it won’t be as easy to switch. It may take a couple quarters based upon your GPA and the classes you take. If the classes you are taking for fall quarter ONLY apply to the liberal studies major, then it will take longer because they won’t work towards your degree. But to be honest, if you aren’t even sure which major you want to switch into, maybe you should wait until you get to Poly to make a final decision. Liberal Studies, Nutrition, and Civil Engineering are three VERY different majors that require very different things of you. Really think about it because you don’t want to have to make another change.

Well I’m pretty set on nutrition. I was just curious about civil engineering. But would I be able to take some classes that apply to the nutrition major?

Yes, you should be able to as long as you register for them. There are some classes that spaces are reserved for people in that major, but working with the guidance office would really help.

I switched to nutrition, its very easy, especialy compared to other departmenst change of major policys. If your grades are good enough you can do it in just 1 quarter(you gotta take nutrion 210 and have high enough test and gpa scores). If that doesn’t work you have to take chem 127, 128 and nutriition with a 3.5 average, or chem 127, bio 161, and nutrion. Easy!
