My parents submitted my writing supplement to the University of Chicago without MY KNOWING IT. I am seriously scared right now because my essays weren't up to par with my standards and I was planning on working them some more. Common App says that once a Common App or writing supplement is submitted to a college, it can never be changed. Please, is there ANY way I can fix this? I don't want UChicago to receive incomplete and unfinished essays that were carelessly submitted without my knowing it.

(1) Your parents should get an award for being the most meddlesome parents of all time!

(2) You’ve known your parents for at least 17 years - what in the world were you thinking when you gave them access to your Common App account???

Unfortunately, I don’t know any way to fix this without making the situation worse (by bringing negative attention to yourself). If you have a high school guidance counselor whom you trust, you might want to ask if he or she can intervene on your behalf.

You might also try contacting U. Chicago anonymously (either by phone or using a different email account) to ask them directly if there’s any way to resubmit an essay if an applicant discovers that he or she submitted an unfinished version by mistake. You’re certainly not the first person who’s hit “submit” by accident . . . so maybe there is a way to fix this.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already done so, change your Common App password to protect any other applications you may have pending - and keep the new password to yourself!
