Major Decisions?

Hey guys! It's been awhile since I posted on this forum. I'm going to be a junior at Rutgers this year, but unfortunately I'm in a bit of a situation on what major I should decide to pursue. I know that I'm going to double major with a BA in Visual Arts, and I've already completed courses towards the BA, but I'm stuck on what to do for my first major. I also want to do a minor as well, depending on the amount of work I'll have to deal with for my major (I know its not required to do a minor if you're double majoring but I'd like to shoot for it anyway). I was thinking about doing Information Technology as my second major and minoring in Computer Science (since there's no IT minor and I can't really decide between the two) and I wanted to know what you guys thought of it in terms of career opportunities and whether or not it would be of any benefit (i.e. would I score some kind of CS-related job if I had it listed as a minor instead of a major?).

I was thinking about doing both CS and IT, but at the level I'm at right now, I don't think it would be possible to finish everything in time, even if I stayed for an extra year :( I've tried to look for advice on which one would be the better path to take if it boiled down to choosing one, but I've heard too many viewpoints for me to make a conscious decision. A lot of people say that you'll find a job as soon as you graduate with IT, but that CS pays more even though it is a much more difficult discipline (I did admit I thought coding was fun in my intro class, it was a tough course to go through). Any thoughts?

I've also been thinking about other majors as well, like public health or social work. If I do end up sticking with a computer-related major, I've thought about minoring in something that could be beneficial in regards to helping the community. For example, my friend is double majoring in ME studies and Public Health and she's interested in working in organizations that provide relief to those who need it, especially on an international level.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, what would be better as a major (CS or IT), if its possible to major in both under my current situation, and if I majored in IT, what would be a good minor to attach to it?

I don't mind staying for an extra semester at the most, but I would love to do as much as possible to graduate within the four-year time frame.

Also (and on an unrelated note), which college is better in terms of getting an IT or CS degree? Rutgers or NJIT? Not that I would transfer or anything, but just a thought lol.

Thanks!

I want to say go for CS… I work for a technology company and we hire a CS majors a lot more than IT majors. My Son’s friend got his CS degree and is now working for a financial firm on Wall street earning 70K as a start up salary. When we do hire IT people , they don’t make half of that. Just my opinion!!

Hmmm…any other thoughts on this?
