Major Difficulty

Hi

I have two questions

  1. I'm thinking of applying as Marketing major to all of my schools, but I want to make clear that I want to concentrate on the communications side of business. I want to work in a media related job later on (hopefully in the business aspect of it) and I was curious if this course would work out. I want to go into a music industry related job, and I know some colleges offer a major in that specific field, but I feel as it is better to be more general and go with a marketing degree because of the greater chance of job opportunities. Is this right?
  2. I heard that to get into the business schools for any college it is typically harder to be admitted. Should I just apply as a communications major ? Then change to a marketing major and make communications my minor while I still filled out some of those credits already? Or should I just apply as a marketing major. I want to do this for schools that generally have a lower acceptance rate. (Northeastern)

If you could give me any advice about how I should approach the admissions process Id be grateful. Thanks.

bump help me out please

It will be different at every school. Some will have a communication major with some marketing content, others will have an actual marketing and/or PR/ad-comm degree, and others will have a business major that has marketing content. You’ll have to make a decision for each school based on their specific program. It sounds like what you want to do will likely fall under communications at most schools, so I would focus on schools with communications schools with a marketing major (or at least minor), or at least communications majors that have courses you’re interested in. I personally wouldn’t apply to any business schools as they tend to really focus on business, not marketing. Personally, I think if you want to do marketing, apply to be a marketing major. Simple as that.
