For my intended major, I really do want to put Physics, however, my strong suit is not in mathematics or physics. Rather, it’s in English and Writing. My math scores aren’t that great with a 32 on the ACT math and 4 and 3 respectively on Calc AB and BC compared to a 35 English on ACT and 5 on Lang exam. My strong-suit, at least for test scores, is in English, however, my intended major is Physics. Would it help at all to change my intended major to something more English-based rather than math oriented? I’ve heard colleges will look at applications based on intended major, and compared to others applying for Physics, my math scores are weak.
Physics is all about math. Do you enjoy physics? Do you enjoy math?
32 isn’t bad for math at all!
You should apply based on what you really want to do. Let us say that you apply as an english major and get in. Let us say that you can transfer easily to physics major. Now you are competing against physics majors with top scores in math. Would you do well?
The other things you can do is not apply to the MITs of the world…there are many colleges that have a physics major…you can compete against less competitive applicants .
