Major Dilemma!

Okay so basically this is where I stand

Accepted to UC Riverside and I'm on the waiting list at Loyola Marymount.

I had a major plan to go through Pasadena City College then onward to USC, and maybe UC Berkley or UCLA if I got in. The problem is, is that I'm having second thoughts that this is worth the gamble and I should just register at UC Riverside and be done with it.

Are there any decent transfer programs for business majors from UC Riverside? Or will it just be easier from a community college. I'm afraid of getting washed up in the midst of UC Riverside and getting stuck there!

Thanks! Myles

EDIT:

HS GPA: 3.5 cumulative
SAT : 1720

not stellar, believe me I know, but I slacked through High School like many.

bumpingggggg

It is easier to transfer from a CC. Much much easier. That said, you'll still need a high GPA at CC to transfer to UCLA or UCB.

You only need like a 3.5 from a CC to transfer to UCLA/UC Berkeley FYI (and it's basically guaranteed with that GPA).

A 3.5? Is that even realistic?

What about extra curricula?

Should i take some and if so, which ones?

It depends on the major. A 3.5 definitely does not guarantee you to transfer to Berkeley in a major like Economics.

I say go to community college only if you know you will commit to it, and not slack off. You could easily transfer into USC after one year, they only require 30 units for them to not even look at your high school record to qualify for admissions.

If you don't get in then, then obviously finish your 60 units, and try again at USC, UCLA, and UCB. If you don't get in, worst case scenerio is that you'll end up at UCR as a transfer which is way easy to get into, even at the transfer level.

Really? After a mere 30 units?

I'd imagine it wouldn't be extremely easy, they'd probably really prefer two year transfers.

Any good ECs I could do to make me really stand out in a CC?

I have a job, but should I quit and focus on school based ECs?

If you want to get into UCB or UCLA, focus on getting high grades.

yeah if you go on to usc transfer website they say if you have completed 30 units by the time you apply they wont look at your h igh school record. go to transfer admissions website.

however if you enter business, marshall requires you to have taken 2 econ classes and calculus by the end of the spring semester. the deadline for usc transfers is usually in feb or march. so i'm thinking that if you take summer, fall and winter courses at community college full time you should easily have the 30 units by the time it comes to apply, you'll even have more than 30 with the spring semester.
