So i am hoping u guys can help me out, as i have a major dilemna.

I applied for fall 09, and have already got into UCI,UCSB, and UCSD. currently waiting on UCLA and Cal.

Here is my problem. I have all my prereqs done, so they are no an issue. Howver On my application i stated i would have IGETC done by end of Spring 09, prior to transfer. However in my last IGETC class which i am taking currently, which is an enlgish class, i am struggling a lot with it, and fear about getting lower than a C.

So what should i do? Should I drop the class? If so can i retake it during summer, if that is allowed?

Or should i continue with the class, do as good as i can, and hope my admissions dont get recinded?

THANKSSSSSS!!!

Cal will not let you take summer courses to fulfill IGETC. However, IGETC is not required for transfer if your major is in the L&S and you completed the L&S English, Quantitative Analysis, and Foreign Language Requirement. So if you’ve completed neither, you could be in trouble.

UCLA will allow you to take summer courses to complete IGETC, so you’re fine with LA.

so if i drop the class and retake it during summer, will i still have to notify them of the change?

Is IGETC a requirement for San Diego do u know?

Thanks

Just take your C. Dropping a class (I think you’d get a W at this point) looks worse than a C. People get Cs, they happen.

EDIT: THE ABOVE POST IS FALSE! A C will never look better than a W. Especially if you want to go to graduate school. Protect your GPA, a W won’t affect it at all, whereas a C will GREATLY bring it down.

If you drop or add a class, you must notify the school you will be attending of the change. You can do this after all schools release the decison.

IGETC isn’t required for San Diego, however, you should still complete it.

oh please, spare the bold font. You can come up with a million excuses for a W, but all they ever hear is “slacker.” Cs are honest. Besides, there’s plenty of time left in the school year, talk to your professor and get that C raised to a B, or even an A.

Getting a W doesn’t necessarily mean slacker. If an unforeseen event occurs, whether it be an accident, tragedy, financial situation, etc, you may be forced to drop the class. Furthermore, if the OP feels as though the grade doesn’t truly reflect his capabilities, taking it again in the Summer wouldn’t be dishonest.

If your Berkeley major is in the L&S and you completed the L&S English, Quantitative Analysis, and Foreign Language Requirement, then I would suggest you drop the class and take it in the Summer.

i also think a W is better than a C. my friend withdrew from a class even though he had an A just because he didn’t want to take it anymore.

Finishing IGETC with a C > Unfinished IGETC with a W

Your GPA won’t go with you when you transfer. If you don’t finish the IGETC your chances of a successful transfer will diminish. But, like I said, you have plenty of time left to raise that grade.

He can finish IGETC in the summer, with an A in english.

And his GPA from CC won’t be erased if he is applying to graduate schools. They will see that C.

i haven’t read any of the responses, but…

1st bit of advice: don’t get a C. i don’t mean to say that you should drop that class… just, well, try harder? it’s english 101… come on, now… PLUS, odds are, if you plead with your prof, you can work out some sort of extra credit assigment to ensure a B in the class. work the system, man…

2nd bit: don’t drop. no IGETC (for L&S majors) = 95% no admission.

1-2 Cs mean that you are a human being capable of making mistakes.
Ws just show that you are too afraid to take risks

If you have completed The L&S Requirements in Reading & Composition, Foreign Language, and Quantitative Reasoning, IGETC IS NOT REQUIRED

“Ws just show that you are too afraid to take risks”

entirely untrue.

you’d have to check up on this, but i thought that you can’t fullfill igetc reqs during the summer.

^
You can’t. At least for Cal.

Agree. I’m planning on going to graduate school and I much rather have that W on my transcript for Organic Chem, who knows what I would have gotten if I stayed in. >__<;;
