So last year for 2021-22 my EFC was 3,925. This year it is not 10,189 meaning now I am not eligible for my pell grant that covered my tuition along with my cal grant. The only difference is in my FAFSA form from last year is that my family number went from 5 to 4, I put 2,000 dollars in my parent’s savings, and my parent barely made more money than last year. Could those few changes really change my EFC 6,264 dollars?
Was the family member who is no longer on your FAFSA also a college student last year?
The changes you list won’t cause that increase. As @thumper1 indicated, one less student in college could cause that. One less in the household won’t make a huge difference like that. Another possibility is that your parent may have had a non taxable IRA/401k rollover. If this is the case, let us know & we’ll advise how to fix with the school. A final thought: Did you have anything listed for question 43?
Nope they were not
I didn’t have anything listed for question 43
Something more than the number in household is causing the difference. Did you enter the tax information yourself, or did you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool? If you entered it yourself, there could be a mistake there. Or maybe the “little more” parent earnings are more than a little in terms of the FAFSA formula. Double check every entry, line by line, to make sure everything is entered correctly.
i used the IRS Data tool and when I say a little more I mean that my parents taxes didn’t change at all from this increase either
I suggest talking to a financial aid officer at your school. They can help you figure out what caused the change & if there’s a mistake, they can help correct it.
