I'm currently a sophomore business major at school A.
My major GPA is a 4.0, and my overall GPA is more like a 3.7.

If I wanted to transfer somewhere, do you think I'd be able to put my major GPA down, rather than my overall? (maybe with an additional comment stating that was my major GPA?)

Pretty sure you shouldn’t do that. You could not somewhere that your major GPA is a 4.0 but when they ask for your GPA they want your overall GPA.

In my opinion, you shouldn’t just put “In major GPA” down.

Not that it matters in your case but its pretty much, IMHO, GPA fraud. You are trying to present yourself as a 4.0 student when you aren’t overall. (I’m definitely not trying to sound rude. Read below =P )

In my case, I could say I have a 4.0 GPA in major, but a 3.54 overall but I wouldn’t specify 4.0 as my GPA because those are specific classes and not based on overall performance. I’m happy with a 3.54 currently not because its an average GPA but because I worked my butt off to get it while working and taking 25 credit semester hours.

If I was an admissions officer or w/e, I’d say your hiding something and not confident with who you are and what you have done.

Oh no, I think I wasn’t clear enough. I wouldn’t pretend that my GPA was the higher one (and completely agree that that is fraud), I’d put it as my overall one (because after all THAT is my real GPA).

I was just wondering if I’d be able to separately state my major GPA apart from my overall GPA (with a note stating that the higher GPA was a major GPA).

Considering I’d be a junior, most of my classes would continue to be major classes, and with my major GPA being higher, I think it would show my strength in those classes.

With that being said, do you think I’d be able to also state what my major GPA is apart from my overall GPA?

They will get your transcript and do their own calculation.
