Major GPA vs Overall GPA

That would be nice!

I’m from L.A. and still live there. As you can imagine, it’d be great if I got into UCLA. :P

How about yourself?

I see haha. I’m from Sacramento but I live in the North Bay right now. Really hoping I can stay up here haha. Would you live in the dorms or at home if you went to UCLA?

I’d definitely stay at home if I went to UCLA. Dorming would probably cost a lot and I’d save lots of money living at home. I also don’t live all that far from UCLA. Hell, the community college I attend is a little farther away than UCLA is.

Is Berkeley your top school? What’s your major and your GPA?

@Cayton How do you know UCLA doesn’t care about ECs?

@flowerchild747

In past years’ UCLA transfer decision threads, numerous people stated that they got accepted with few or no ECs. UCLA reps say they don’t care very much and so have UCLA admissions officer. I asked my TAP program counselor(The TAP program works very closely with UCLA to significantly increase student members’ chances of being admitted) about ECs and she also said they don’t care much.

It’s true. I know 2 people. One with a 3.9 GPA and above-average personal statement. The other with a 3.6 and a GREAT personal statement. The former got into both UCLA Biz-econ and UCB Haas, the latter only into UCB Haas.

@Cayton That is such a bummer. I really want to go to UCLA. I went to visit it last weekend and I fell in love with the campus… Aghhh why can’t it be April already?!

@flowerchild

A bummer? That’s great imo, lol. Now I don’t have to worry about ECs too much. :P

And yeah, I’m just waiting for April to come already too.

@Cayton Haha no it’s bad! I have some good ECs. Hopefully we will both get in!

@Cayton,
Yeah, that’d save you a ton of money. I’m an Anthro major. Initially, I wanted to major in Philosophy but my JC doesn’t offer the required pre-req. We’ve got the same GPA haha.

We will, flowerchild, we will. Just wait 'n see. ;)

@Snorlaz

Sucks when your CC doesn’t offer necessary pre-reqs. You could always double major in anthro and philosophy after transferring, though.

I’ve always been curious, what is major gpa? I’m assuming is all the class that’s articulated on assist for your major? If so, then I am in luck for Comp Sci BA for Berkeley. Not only they have barely have any articulated, the ones that is on there…I’m getting a 4.0. I am only missing Differential Equations (which I’m taking now) and Data Structures for next semester.

If my assumptions are correct then…
major gpa - 4.0
transfer gpa - 3.44

Still a long shot for Berkeley, but at least I’m showing a strong upward trend^^

UCB focuses on the completion of the IGETC and your overall GPA which I assume is not your major GPA. I know that UCLA looks at major GPA.
