I was wondering how to calculate a "major" GPA (I checked on my transcript and degree check, and no luck). I am a bioengineering major, and my cumulative GPA is not that good due to some major screw-ups freshmen year in pre-reqs like math and physics. I'd love to be able to count only my upper division classes (since bioE is a very diverse field, I'm taking classes in many departments, including bioE, biology, engineering, etc). However, those math and physics classes do technically count towards my major. What do you do to try to portray your GPA in a better light?

My engineering friends used to calculate their major or “technical GPA” by only counting classes that began with their major (they were civil engineering, so anything that began with CEE). I think that is how the career services people told them to do it, although I thought it was kind of a poor representation of the major GPA since the math and physics classes tended to be much tougher classes

On my degree audit, my ‘major gpa’ includes all math/science/engineering courses.

my career office said, unless its listed on your transcript, calculate however way that gives you the highest, you can always justify how you calculated it and there are no set rules
