I'm a Biology major, probably to change to genetics or microbiology after I transfer. However, I only want a bachelors and supposedly there isn't much to do with just a bachelors in Biology. I know I can do really any science (engineering was hard though for me, but that was about 2 years ago), but I am already in a hole meaning I'd have to stay another year at my Community college to go to engineering or chemistry.

I will likely transfer to UCI as a Biological sciences major this fall (TAG).

Is double majoring (3 years for sure) a possibility for me (I don't have the best GPA only because my first 3 semesters I stunk)? Also is biochemistry a better major than just a biological science one as a bachelors?

If your plans are to go into one of the health profession than it doesn’t matter what your bio specialization is.

Yes. Double majoring is possible but not in two biology majors.

I would say chemistry > microbiology > biochemistry > bio sci. If you want to find a job in a lab the easiest.

I wouldn’t recommend majoring in bio to anyone (coming from a bio major) if you don’t plan to go to professional school. You work hard and get nothing to show for it. You can apply your efforts to other areas that can payoff a lot more.

I am leaning towards majoring in Microbiology and depending on the financial aid I receive I may go for a double major in civil engineering in 3 years.
I’m shooting for an summer internship at UCI.
The reason I don’t want to go postgrad is because I will probably have to be working and going to school (as I am now). I believe I need to use my time for other things besides work and school, not to mention I am planning for a future that I may not even have (we aren’t promised tomorrow).

Good chance they could deny you aid for doing that kind of double majoring. Those are two very different majors and you are only allocated so much money and time. You need to make a decision for a major and just go for a minor. This is also not a good time for civ.

You get 9 quarters of financial aid at UCI excluding summers. If you can finish within 3 years you should be fine.

I recommend just dropping bio and just do civil engineering. Bio won’t do a thing for you in unless you have some kind of intellectual interest in it. Maybe add a minor in management or something instead of bio.

So when I get accepted my first quarter am I able to take the engineering classes right away so I can change major soon, to finish in two years. I think I’d prefer just to be in engineering, biology changes a lot and is very unsure of it self as in, they still don’t know much about life.
Since, I did TAG for biological sciences I don’t know what the policy is. Also now I have a year of Chem and Bio done that I would rather not go to waste.
