Good idea? At this moment I am really liking and entertaining the idea of doing this. I know a lot of people think that having a math minor would be a better idea but I am going for the Econimcs B.A. route not B.S.

What are your goals? Where do you go to school? Minors mean very little. People recommend math minors with econ majors because they tend to have large overlaps and some extra math courses beyond those required for an econ major can be useful in some upper level econ courses (linear algebra). There is nothing wrong about minoring in sociology, but it probably wont give you any huge advantages when applying for jobs.

I plan to work right away after I graduate. I figure the sociology classes would help me understand why people do the things they do and how it correlates to their economic decisions. I’m currently enrolled in a sociology class that will fulfill a gen ed requirement anyway. Depending on what I learn and if any of it can be helpful in studying economics I might get myself a minor in sociology.

what about gaining proficiency in a foreign language instead of taking sociology? Will have better long term benefits

I see what you mean. For the moment I am just going to see how first semester goes and I might even make the switch to major in finance. It’s going to be one of the two :P

Soli, if sociology is what you want to study go for it. Math minor is only really better if you want to go to grad school.
