Major in Engineering while successfully completed premed?

I'm not in college yet, but this is a serious consideration for me as I must choose for some colleges whether I want to apply to the regular College (as in College of Arts and Sciences) or to the Engineering school at various universities. I am not 100% sure of what I want to do, but these are the two options on my list: biomedical engineering, financial engineering (or economics if FE is not available)/Operations Research.

Now, I have heard that engineering majors often take a bit of a hit when it comes to GPA. I may want to attend med school after graduation, so is it wise to take on an engineering course load and still expect to get into a top medical school? Does anyone have experiences with this that they can tell me about? Any advice?

Why do you have to go to a “top” medical school? I have several doctors in my family who do quite well and went to med schools nobody ever heard of.

I’m only posing a question. My attendance at medical school is completely uncertain as I have not even applied for an undergraduate college yet! I’m only considering my options.

I agree with what you’re saying, but I’m just investigating my options.

One of my good friends from UW-Madison was a chemical engineering major and he ended up getting into the UW med school. I don’t know if you would consider it a “top” med school or not.

I know plenty oF BME ppl who got into top med schools
